Susan Varo is an accomplished self-taught visual. Her fascination towards creativity blossomed from an early age.
Her talents quickly became recognized by her peers and teachers and she received a scholarship to Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York in 1974. Later in her career, she attended The Center for the Media Arts and worked as a freelancer.
Her early works encompassed cartoons and animals, however she loved capturing feelings and expressions of the many faces and places she embraced which quickly transported her to create her unique style of artwork.
Susan's love of attention to detail is remarkable and unmistakable. She immerses herself deeply into capturing colors, shapes textures and design in the style of realism which has made her into an innovative, eclectic and multifaceted artist.
Her ambitious nature for creating paintings from that which surrounds her has become her motto, "Creating Art From Life."
"My art pieces reflect a specific and special moment in time or place before it's gone. Sometimes, it's all about the beauty or the feeling from it," she states.
"I want viewers to see what I see and feel by what I create, capturing depths of detail for a lasting impression. My inspiration comes from the people I meet, my travels, experiences and awe-inspiring moments that spark my creativity", she continues.
Susan uses graphite in some of her works, however, oils, watercolor, and acrylic are at the top of her list. Nearly all of her works are created in the style of realism, but she abounds in abstracts, pets and uniquely-styled products.
"Interestingly, my work seem to represent many cultures but my style is my own. I think art should tell a story but not so much about the artist but also about what they see. The story is in the subject matter and the details show what is most important and this is usually the initial inspiration. The completed art piece should then tell the whole story. Art is a journey and a destination. Being an artist is all encompassing but painting sets you free! The journey continues. Well there's my story in paintings and more", says Susan.
